Journey around the planet by human-power alone.
A LONG WAY for Water
Around the World 4 Water is an adventure led by world record-holder, endurance athlete, and charitable ambassador, Katie Spotz in an attempt to row, cycle, swim, and kayak around the globe and become the first woman ever to accomplish this feat.
Why? The journey is more than an adventure; it’s an opportunity to raise funds for a clean water and sanitation project in support of H2O for Life. The goal is to inspire action to help 100,000 people gain access to clean water by funding projects en route in Central America, North America, and Africa.
Stage one: ROwing the atlantic
Katie Spotz completed the first stage of the journey, rowing 3,000 miles solo across the Atlantic Ocean, becoming the youngest person to do it and only American to row solo from Africa to South America.
STAGE TWO: cycling the americas
The next leg of the journey is cycling from South America to North America — 8,000 miles by primarily cycling, and swimming across rivers and kayaking around the Darien Gap. Katie will be visiting water projects along the way.
Tentative Start Date: January 2023
Stage three: Rowing the pacific
Replacing pedals for oars, the journey will continue by rowing from San Francisco, USA to Vietnam. This stage is anticipated to take 9-12 months alone at sea.
Tentative Start Date: June 2023
The final stage: cycling asia to africa
Going back to the bicycle, Katie will cycle with support through Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The journey will finish in Dakar, Senegal where the journey began.
Tentative Start Date: June 2024
