Chances are, when you turn on a tap, clean water flows without a second thought. Yet 1 in 8 people worldwide still live without access to safe drinking water.
Millions of children around the world spend their day walking for hours to collect water instead of going to school. Additionally, frequent upset stomachs and diarrhea from the polluted water cause them to miss even more class and eventually drop out of school.
Water changes everything. Clean water gives children the opportunity to attend school and get an education. With education, communities are able to raise up strong leaders, making it possible to break the cycle of poverty and allowing future generations to improve their quality of life.
To date, 48,659 people have gained access to clean water through Katieโs adventures and challenges in Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, India, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Nigeria, South Africa, and the USA. For a full list of funded projects, visit the impact page.
